View Full Version : Missing chapter markers with MPC

I think I have asked this already months (years) ago in one of the MPC player threads but nothing seem to have happened because the problem is still there !
So I thought that a dedicated thread might get the attention of more people - maybe even former developers of mpc.

Here is the issue:

On several Blu-Rays that I own both MPC-HC and MPC-BE always load a playlist obviously not containing infos about chapters !!
Playlist: 00002.mpls (Example of Disc: 'Quatermass and the Pit' (German release))

So I manually have to pick the next entry under navigation:
01002.mpls
Then chapter markers are displayed (and jumping to chapters work).

DVDfab Passkey specifically reports that 01002.mpls is the main playlist for that disc !!

O.K., not that big of a deal but one of the further problems is that when I re-load the affected discs both HC and BE again load 00002.mpls and not
just re-load 01002.mpls !! And I think that's just akward.

Is it possible that HC and BE just load the playlist with the lowest number ?
Sorry, I am not a programmer so I have no idea how much work that would cause but couldn't that be fixed ?
Maybe (as a work-around) just by also saving the chosen playlist besides audio, position, etc ??

Already fixed in MPC-BE.

Would like to thank again for this fix as it works great !!
I was wondering if there is any chance that you might add a function that checks what an app like DVDfab Passkey thinks is the main playlist ??
This would fix the 'problem' I have with a few blu-rays containing content like a featurette which is actually longer than the main movie !! For example on the French release of
George Romero's Night of the living dead MPC-BE always opens 00000.mpls although the main movie is 00003.mpls. Passkey correctly identifies 00003.mpls as main playlist.
Thanks !

There is no way to detect "main" playlist. But - you can answer author of DVDFab how they detect :)

I think someone mentioned in the past that AnyDVD created an INI file in the disc root with title information. Maybe DVDFab does that as well?

The fix above was that the change were it prefers the biggest file when title durations are equal?

Well O.K., but maybe MPC-BE could make a more logical choice of the main playlist ?!

Let's take the already mentioned 'Night of the living dead' BR as an example.
In the playlist folder of the disc are 7 mpls-files and BE lists three of them under navigation:
1) duration 01:41:08 but resolution only 720:576i
2) duration 01:35:52 - resolution 1920:1080p
3) duration 01:18:43 but resolution only 720:576i

I mean, shouldn't it be obvious that not the longest file is the main feature but the one with the highest resolution ?

Can you upload this BD full structure, but all .m2ts files with zero size.
Can upload without .m2ts files - for me this will be enough.
