One of the earlier posts on SVCD to DVD suggested demuxing the 44kHz .mp2 audio frrom the 3-4 SVCD's, then joining them, then converting to 48kHz in Tmgenc.
DVDMaestro will accept the joined mp2 format file, but does give awarning at one point later on
Anyway the resultant DVD will play on PC, but there is no sound on either of the 2 DVD players I can get access to
48kHZ .mp2 does or doesn't play on standalone DVD players when on a DVD??
Any help
Jeff

By the standard an NTSC DVD must have one of either AC3 or PCM audio encoded. PAL allows MPEG audio. More info is available at:
http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html
See paragraph 3.6.2
"Discs containing 525/60 video (NTSC) must use PCM or Dolby Digital on at least one track. Discs containing 625/50 video (PAL/SECAM) must use PCM or MPEG audio or Dolby Digital on at least one track. Additional tracks may be in any format. A few first-generation players, such as those made by Matsushita, can't output MPEG-2 audio to external decoders."

I've used the mp2 on a few of my SVCD->DVD's w/o problems. Players tested include Sony, Panasonic, and Apex. You may need to rename the .mp2 to .mpa for your authoring program.

Whether it works depends on a lot of things. If you are using the line output jacks you are probably fine with MPEG audio -- but the depends on the player. If you are using digital output to a digital capable stereo -- then it is less likely MPEG-Audio will work.
I go back to the standard, and why not build to the standard? You can have MPEG audio on an NTSC disk, but to make it truly "DVD Compliant" you need at least one track of either AC3 or PCM.
My guess would be that jeffnoone is (most likely) using the digital output connector (or built in decoder) so he can take advantage of 6 Channel Dolby, and that is the reason his MPEG-Audio encoded DVD isn't working -- or his DVD Players (by the DVD standard) expect PCM and/or AC3.

jdobbs - you are right on this
tried one of the DVD players (Sharp) and it will output the .mp2 in analogue right/left stereo format - I didn't think of that
will go the AC3 route (just trying to save some time)
thanks for input
