1080p won't export in virtualdub

Im using "x264vfw" witch I often use for exporting 720p movies, but I worked with my first 1080p movie, but when I tried to export I got error "x264vfw [error]: x264_encoder_encode failed" The size is a 1920x1080, 25fps.

Can it not handle that ratio/size or is it something I have missed doing?

So if RAM is a problem, try:
- Large Address Aware VirtualDub build: https://www.mediafire.com/?5wdk1o6wm7c94zz (allows VirtualDub 32 to use 4 GB instead of 2 GB on a 64 bit OS) or
- VirtualDub "External Encoder" feature instead of VfW or
- VirtualDub 64 or
- reduce RAM usage of x264

Always post complete VirtualDub log (F8).

I did use 64-bit, (also using 64-bit windows 10). The file I got sent worked accouly. But I did some more search cause it seems like virtualdub has not been updated for a long time and found VirtualDub2. I did try that to and that worked as well, even faster for the same settings on the same file and adding plugins was so mutch faster in that version.

BTW, can someone tell me the difference between x264 and x265 (that one was in virtualdub2)

x265 is a more modern codec than x264.
It will generally compress better than x264,
especially for high resolution files.

Encodes generally take longer with x265.

However, x265 does not have as much hardware support as x264.
For example most blu-ray players do not support x265.
I understand the more modern UHD blu-ray players probably support x265,
but I don't have one so I cannot say for sure.

They do. I own a Panasonic UHD BD Player and it supports H.264 4:2:0 8bit/10bit and H.265 (HEVC) 4:2:0 8bit/10bit.
The new ones are required to support at least H.265 4:2:0 8bit/10bit and H.264 4:2:0 8bit, but they are not required to support H.264 10bit 'cause it has never been standardized.

My LG 'smart' TV on the other-hand supports 8-bit and 10-bit HEVC 4:2:0. But only 8-bit AVC 4:2:0.
