Error in Video Encoding Step

Hi everyone,

Thanks for keeping this forum active, there is a ton of good information here.

I was wondering if anyone has had this same error. I was ripping Spinal Tap yesterday, and everything seemed to be going fine. Then, at the Video Encode step, I got an error: File Access Denied. I've never had this problem before. I rebooted and tried again through crash recovery, no luck. Tried again from scratch - nothing.

This is the first time I've used build 4, and haven't had any problems before now with previous versions. The only thing that has changed in my setup is that I was trying to rip at CBR (the movie is only 82 mins.) - Could that be the problem?

I moved the thread to "DVD2SVCD Basic Topics" because the big portion of all "Help me's" should be posted here. Have a look at the Sticky about the "New forum structure" why you should do so. ;)

But back to your problem:

This error was reported a few times since but there was no real solution for it yet. So I did a little digging with the "search" button and found this interesting thread:

Please have a look in there and see if this applies to your problem especially when you're also running WinXP - I think there must be also a process running that locks the file so that dvd2svcd (or CCE) cannot access it.

Would be great if you could report back with some results for a possible solution for all the other not yet closed cases of this error. :)

First of all, sorry for being stupid and posting to the advanced area. Thanks for being so gracious, Gerti.

Secondly, I found out a fix - at least I think so - for my problem. I had downloaded the DVD2SVCD bundle at work and then burned it to a CD. When I copied the file to my HD, it remained a read-only file. This had a ripple effect on the install, and led to the File Access Denied error. At least I think so.

I simply right-clicked the DVD2SVCD folder under Program Files and clicked properties, then I de-selected the grayed out read-only checkbox. I restarted DVD2SVCD, loaded up the crash recovery file, and BOOM! I was back in business.
