I have video AMD Radeon R9 290X from 2013. I know the card is a little old but at the time it cost about 500$ so I´m hoping I do not need to buy a new one yet.

So I´m trying to play 4K x264/x265 videos but I cannot get the GPU acceleration working. I´m using the latest display drivers etc.

When I play a video, the CPU usage goes to 100% so it seems the GPU acceleration does not work

See the screenshot from LAV Video Decoder. I also tried other options from LAV Video Decoder like NVIDIA CUVID etc. but not use.

4K videos with x264 are quite watchable with CPU at 80-90% but with x265 the CPU is always at 100%

Please help me get the GPU acceleration working. I´m using Win7 64bit

Sorry to inform you that your card doesn't support 4K acceleration at all.

You need a Tonga GPU (R9 285) - which is newer than yours - in order to get 4K H.264 HW acceleration.

And 4K H.265 (8bit/10bit) HW acceleration is only present in Polaris/Vega cards.
