hi

i need some help as I don't know whats this type of noise is called in the attached video

its happening between scene changes you can see the colors in the background which could be from the previous frame having a guess that every time the video camera was quickly stopped and started recording again has caused this kind of noise? as it only happens during scene changes (which happens a lot in the complete video)

https://www.sendspace.com/file/5iws1i

I don't have a script yet I'm unsure as to what this type of noise is?

Frames 44 - 62

any help would be appreciated
Gordon

This is typical from old VHS sources. How old is your content?
These horizontal stripes aren't noise, they are like a huge raimbowning.
Luckily, Cnr2 was made to fix these issues 'cause back in the days, many people wanted to transfer their old VHS to DVD.

There are also non-active lines in your capture. Although they are not gonna be displayed due to overscan (safe area), you may wanna crop them out, 'cause not every player honors overscan flags and they might display the garbage contained in non-active lines.

FFMpegSource2("background_issue_huffy.avi", atrack=-1)

Converttoyv12(interlaced=true)

tdeint(mode=2, order=-1, field=-1, mthreshL=6, mthreshC=6, map=0, type=2, debug=false, mtnmode=1, sharp=true, cthresh=6, blockx=16, blocky=16, chroma=true, MI=64, tryWeave=true, link=1, denoise=true, slow=2, opt=4)

yv12pointsamplingnnfix(mode=2)

Cnr2(mode="ooo", scdthr=255.0, ln=255, lm=222, un=255, um=255, vn=255, vm=255)

Crop(16, 16, -16, -16)

Spline64ResizeMT(720, 576)

ResampleAudio(48000)

Normalize(0.16)

You may also wanna apply a bit of color correction 'cause colors are a bit off. You can use GamMac, a filter made by Stainless that's particularly useful for old spoiled sources.
On a side note, audio is way too loud, you might wanna normalize it to something reasonable like -18 LUFS 〰 -24 LUFS.

this tape is from 1998

there's a lot of stop, record, stop, record going on through out this video which might be what is causing the rainbowing

okay will look into it

Those are chroma dropouts, fyi, equivalent to the black or white lines of luma dropouts. I'm surprised TDeint+Cnr2 works as well as it does, but it does seem to work. Might want to run Vinverse across it for that last residual combing.

Perhaps DepulseC() is in the same ballpark.

If you cant find it I may have a copy somewhere.
