Hi
Question : does anyone make successful subtitles for Philips 711 DVD player ? Thx for your cooperation

I use DVD2SVCD 1.06b4 ; subtitles SVCD format (i also try VCD format ...)
All the conversion process goes fine in DVD2SVCD, but nothing appears on my DVD player (subtitles & languages --> have always a 'cross' on my TV (invalid function)).

Thx

I assume here that you made your BIN image with VCDXBuild. If so, I think that the cross on the screen might be related to the fact that PBC is ON. I read somewhere that in order to select subtitle and select audio, one had to either edit the .xml file in order to remove PBC, or to manually set PBC OFF on the reader itself (there is an option or a button on the remote). On DVD2SVCD 1.0.6b4 I think there is also an option to remove PBC ('no PBC').

You could also make the BIN with VCDImager. Normally you shouldn't get that problem. Personally I have a Philips 722, and all the test CD I made with VCDImager were ok (well at least for sub/audio selection).

The only problem I have with subs is that they freeze the player (the CD plays ok then suddenly the player freezes; the only way out is to unplug the mains). However this problem seems related to a firmware bug on the 722, not authoring software (see other threads).
