Nothing that new or inventive, but it may be effective.
Now there is a question- is this saved bitrate covers extra time spent for doing all this different versions during encoding?
I assume because you do it once (and can really parallelise it) it will be worth it.

It's quite interesting to see how real case scenarios (and money/bandwidth saving :) ) can push to think bit out to box and drive new ideas.
