Do you have a Pioneer 343?

I noticed the same thing and I author my SVCDs without PBC so that I can have the time dispaly. It works just fine.

If you turn off PBC the time will appear but you'll probably find that the chapters dissappear.

On my Philips DVD 751 with PBC off
- time is displayed
- chapters can NOT be accessed by numbers
- chapters can be accessed by next and prev buttons

With PBC on
- time is NOT displayed
- chapters can be accessed with numbers
- chapters can be accessed by next and prev buttons

As far as I know this is the standard behaviour.

Hi there,

turning PBC off will do no harm in general - it's just another way your DVD player plays the SVCD. (Playback Control - just for the ones not knowing yet ;))

You will loose the ability to skip through the chapters but not on all standalones e.g. some Philips's are said to be able to skip through chapters with PBC off.

And another thing is - you can't use Title- and ChangeCD pictures anymore. If you have some time you can do a test with the "PBC use Playlist" option of the "DVD chapters" setting in dvd2svcd. But I think that will be more a single solution for a specific standalone and will not work with every standalone.

I still haven't tried that myself with my Toshiba.

instead of not encoding with pbc why not just try pressing #1 on your dvd players remote instead of play, this disables pbc and works on most dvd players and you should be able to see the time counter.this way you should be able to keep change cd pics etc.

One problem i have with PBC (also a philips 751) is that i can't access the menu with PBC on. So i can't select subtitles :(
On eway to bypass that is to set the PBC off in the DVD options screen.

What was the default setting for PBC before we could change it?

I'm using ver 1.05b4

Hi stanleycup,

the default did not change since. It was "PBC use selections" but dvd2svcd - God bless him :) - gave us two additional options to cure some troubles with certain standalones. ;)
