Avisnyth/VapourSynth StaXRIP usage.

First of all, Hello fellow Doom9 members. This is my first thread. If i opened thread to wrong place, forgive me, im new!

Quality re-mastering is really interesting to me so i decided to learn this things.

First of all i would like to say my point.

I'm basically trying to re-master DVD to a Blu-Ray quality. And the footage is anime/cartoon.

I saw people doing that and they really done a brilliant job.

So the first thing i wanna ask is;

In a sub reddit named ATLARemaster, they used some sort of tools such as Avisynth/VapourSynth and StaxRIP. Also they released their script to public. But the main thing is i just don't know how to run to script in order to re-master my anime footage. I will post few links so you guys can understand more better. :rolleyes:

Remastering a DVD to quasi-Blu ray quality isn't illegal. Distributing the result? Yes, but while distribution is referred to in the linked materials, that's tangential to what's being asked.

I hope you didn't write this seriously. Cause re-mastering isn't legal. Distributing is illegal. It's not like i'm gonna re-master stuff and sell them lol.

Yes they released waifu2x plugin for Avisynth. You can google it.

Hmm... Remastering video quality seems very promising that's why I'm trying to learn this too in my free time.But the remastering group you showed gave their script. Which means you wont have any problem replicate them. Just go to filter profile in staxrip and see the script previously set by stax as example. That helped me a lot. That two images looks bad.

Adjusting level and saturation without the use of the color monitors is just silly. What makes him think that he can bump up the saturation and increase the contrast? What was that based on? Adjusting based on personal taste is not a good reason.

And yes upscaling requires a certain amount of sharpening to bring out the details, but not with awarpsharp. That's the least of all stuff you would want to do for sharpening lol. It reminds me of this good old thread (https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=134078) many years ago. And many years later today, people who have some years of experience in this forum knew that awarpsharp is not for end use, because it destroys the lines, as you can see it on those images, the lines were shrank. The guy is a noob.

And looks like he darkened the lines too, which is again, bad. Because 9 times out of 10 people will overdo it, and so did he. It may not be noticeable from the screenshot, but on playback it will look weird.

Here is a good example to explain why it's bad. This screenshot has many lines, and before the filter, there should be a variation of depth on the lines for every character. Characters on the back should have lighter color lines than the characters in front. But what happen after the lines were darkened? Every lines looked the same depth, the variations were gone, the whole picture became flat. So the best approach is not darken it at all.

Actually that's the problem. :( I'm really new at these things and StaxRIP is kinda hard for me. I don't know how to load this script at StaxRIP. Can you help me?:)

Yes sure can man...
First download the filter plugin u wanna use.
2nd place to auto-load folder (Run staxrip then Main Menu > Tools > Folders > Plugins)
3rd set filter profile (While in staxrip Filter>Profiles)
Then start adding script,

''Plugin-name'' = ''Plugin(Value)''
''Plugin-name'' = ''Plugin()''--------[for default value]
4th then use it like other preset filter.Done:)
