Pals, I'm desperate.
I'm under Win7/64/sp1 updated,
use latest MPCs 64 (1.7.11 & 1.5.1)
and up to date nVidia drivers for my GT340.

Both my MPCs are crashing when using any File menu item :
- Directly with Open Device
- when trying to (auto) play any type of file with the other items.
MPC-HC last crash report :
https://drdump.com/UploadedReport.aspx?DumpID=15242385

I did completely uninstall (including settings) and reinstall both MPC. I also tried installing MPC-HC 32bit but the problem is the same.

I installed, selected and tried madVR rendered : still crashing.

VLC, ffplay(ffmpeg) and WMP plays files normally.

Booting Win7 in safe mode, MPC plays but with no audio and showing the following Error window:
Error creating EVR Custom renderer
CreateDevice failed
Error code: 0x8876086A
DX9AllocatorPresenter failed
D3DERR_NOT AVAILABLE

I can't locate when the problem occurred (I would say between one and two months ago). It may come from a Windows update but I'd like your opinion before roll-backing.
The only related AV software I did install in that period is Open Shot Video Editor and I did update MediaInfo.

Of course I'll furnish any info asked.
MPC players are my favorite and really important to me.
Thanks in advance for any clue, suggestion & help, marcurling.

That one is difficult to diagnose without a full dump, but it's Hitman Pro/Sophos that's actually forcing the application to crash. I don't know if there's a good way to whitelist the app. The root of the problem is most likely writing to uninitialized memory that normally doesn't cause an MPC crash, and Hitman is catching that and killing the process. It could be an error within MPC, or it could be inside of any shell extension you have installed (I have a couple of dodgy ones that occasionally cause Explorer or some app to crash), but I can't tell from the stack trace; if it's not possible to work around, MPDN is an excellent alternative.

You can whitelist it in HitmanPro settings.

Just a quick post to thank you both.
Didn't find yet how to whitelist in Hitman Pro but it is the culprit.
I just stopped the HitmanPro.Alert Service in the meanwhile.

May you have a sunny sunday, marcurling.
