Wow! It really is looking more and more as if AACS 2.0 has actually been cracked. If true I'm very impressed. I expected it to take MUCH longer to break. Due to the encryption I had pretty much written off UHD content as inaccessible so if AACS is no longer an obstacle I'll definitely be open to buying discs in the future.

That would be wonderful indeed.

If all the rumors about a way to pass by this upgraded AACS Encryption standard is true, I will definitely invest in a new BR-Player and a UHD-Monitor to watch them on my GNU/Linux machine.

But who knows how long it takes until a Free & Open Source Software exists to make this dream reality.

For now I hope the actual list of VUK-Keys can be reused and new AACS 2.0 keys can simply be appended. But right now as far as I know the list wasn't updated since 5 months :-(

I expect (and I would say it would be very useful) a thread like this http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=120988 for 4K unique Keys , let's hope it will come soon. It's too early for a decryption tool but a Keys thread would be great

Slightly off-topic: supposedly (http://www.avsforum.com/forum/26-home-theater-computers/2293498-uhd-blu-ray-disc-bdxl-drive-test-request-2.html#post41486857), there is an updated version of BD+ for UHD-Blurays. Since the four images of UHD-Blurays that have been released by the scene so far seem to play back fine on stock UHD-Bluray players, the corresponding discs probably do not contain a new variant of BD+. So far, images of discs distributed by Sony and Lionsgate have been released. For standard (1080p) Bluray, BD+ was used mostly by Fox (and MGM).

For purposes of reverse-engineering, it would be interesting to see an AACS2.0-free image of an UHD-Bluray disc that contains (a new version of) BD+, if any such disc exists (yet).

Of course, BD+ for 1080p Blu-Ray was largely ineffective after all so that the relevant persons may have decided to ditch it altogether for UHD.

Someone in Russia is selling a tool called DeUHD now for 199 Euro, claims it can rip 30 UHD/AACS 2.0 titles with a handful of supported devices: http://deuhd.ru/index.html

In 2 years or earlier AACS2.0 will be available by free software.

With only 30 titles supported it doesn't seem too useful yet. Hopefully this is simply the first crack in AACS2.0 but it may require something specific for each title which would be annoying.

I think it's the real step ahead since the release of the 1st UHD BD. It might not be a definitive tool, it may be improved, I agree; but it's something very cool; they ask quite a bit but the effort they've put in is really big. Don't think it's as easy as cracking blu-rays

It is quite impressive, I was only bemoaning that it isn't the same thing as a full generic crack. Even bluray isn't fully compromised, though most of the time no changes are needed for new discs.

They do deserve a lot for managing even this, if it supported a UHD disc I owned I would probably buy it, but it doesn't. I did order one of the UHD drives they currently support. :p

It is definitely not as easy as blurays, and those were much harder than DVDs. :(
