Wow, is that ever impressive! I'd be interested to see what the grain reduction looks like on a 5-second clip to see how natural the remaining grain looks. That has always been the problem with my attempts to reduce grain: the grain tends to "line up" with itself and begin to look unnatural.
This also reminds me, one more time, that I need to get off my behind and incorporate GamMac into my workflow. The gamma improvement on some of the faces in shadows is really remarkable, especially since the highlights and shadows still look so good.
My favorite frame is the boy in front of the 50s radio and kitsch lamp.

It would I think, never have occurred to me to try GamMac on Grayscale (I presume that is what was done).
Have recently (till a few days back) been experimenting with something similar to GamMatch (not GamMac), but for YUV,
args completely different and builtin intent to avoid logo or some bug on frame. (ie replace bug, or hard coded subs
from alternative version of clip). We seemed to be getting closer, but I was wanting to maybe try replace Gamma
function with some kind of linear to quarter circle type slope (evenly change across the range), but have no idea
how to do that. (also to apply bias or brightness AFTER gamma equiv and not before as usual with gamma, bias adjustment).
Chroma adjustment done is S curve fashion as in RgbAdapt() or ColorYUV2() via SPow setting, RPow being Gamma
equivalent name where gamma is really an RGB concept.

It works great on telerecordings. I've been experimenting with Dad's Army and Steptoe and Son. Does wonders! ;)

My film capturing system is RGB, even for B/W film. Because I have noticed that even in B/W film there is still some color information. GrayScale() removes this color tint. So I have not used GreyScale() before GamMac(). Instead, I have reduced saturation after GamMac.

Ah, yes of course Fred, silly of me to think otherwise. Wonder if any improvement in webcam caps, I'll give it a try with
RGB at some time (Usually cap in some alternative YUV format,forgot what its called, maybe I420 or something similar,
sometimes swapped U,V planes).
