Hello!

I have been trying to improve my dvd set for a while and I seem to have most of it well off and upscaled. Periodically on the DVD sets (including the later widescreen ones) I see faded dot anime eyes from a distance occasionally, which tends to get worse as I upscale and sharpen.

The guy in the middle is a decent example. It will look faded in some frames in the pure source before filters as well, but line darkeners like Toon or FastLineDarkenMod dont seem to do much. Is there a way to darken the small eyes before the upscaling without ruining other things?

Thanks again for all the help, very awesome community. :thanks:

Im using vapoursynth, but I figure posts like this go here.

How about manually? In something like an image editor or video editor? If it's only a few frames it won't be too much work. You probably won't be selective enough otherwise and affect other parts.

@ShogoXT... that's One Piece; Toei Animation released a 1080i Remaster 1.77 FF with pan and scan. Even though the image has been cropped up and down, it looks a way better than the old DVDs.

Sorry off-topic,
I know that early episodes are hand drawn. But when I see the first episode for curiosity, those HD releases had BIG dot-crawls. Aren't those just upscales.

Uhm... weird. I don't remember seeing dot crawl in the Remaster and I managed to get the .ts directly from BS-Fuji when they aired the remastered episodes. Not sure about the Crunchyroll release instead.

Yea if they had a blu ray release id definitely buy it, but im pretty sure we are stuck with DVDs. Those remasters are why I started doing it myself, because they decided to do a sloppy crop.

Episodes 1-53 have dotcrawl and rainbow problems, which were left in on the remasters. Not only that they didnt even frame time correctly same as me, as I can tell they used vinverse to cover it up. Their lines are a lot darker than what I did, and they dont have the faded eye issue because of it I imagine, but I wonder what they used?

I at least fixed the dotcrawl and rainbows(mostly) after a bit of work. No cropping! Only problem is the faded eyes, some aliasing, and the mess vinverse leaves.
