Hi there,
Looking to acquire 3840x2160 at 60Hz from a Magewell HDMI 2.0 capture card. I'd like to capture directly into ProRes, CineForm or a similar lossy codec that can play back in real-time and is easy to edit with. Right now I'm using CQP h.264 via NvEnc and the files need to have proxies made to work in Premiere. It's a time sink.
The main issues I'm facing are:
1. ProRes encoding on Windows is super-slow compared to Mac, so can't capture 4K60 in real-tie
2. The Magewell card doesn't work on Mac - no drivers - so no avenue to capture in OSX that I'm aware of
3. CineForm is super-fast and plays back beautifully on Windows, but requires a capture tool to support DirectShow encoders - VFW won't cut it
4. MJPEG could possibly work but have yet to find a fast enough encoder that can provide ProRes/CFHD levels of quality.
So I guess my questions are:
1. Is there a ProRes/CFHD lossy alternative in a VFW codec?
2. Are there any capture tools out there that can access CineForm's multi-threaded DirectShow encoder (not the VFW one)
