View Full Version : FFMpeg Has Stopped Working

Having just formatted my hard drive and starting over from scratch, I was investigating all the settings and options in DVD Rebuilder Pro 1.28.2 after re-installing it. I decided to try the Mobile Output option. I'm using Win 10 64 bit. At the end of the 1st pass a Windows pop-up informed me that FFMpeg had stopped working and that Windows would close it and search for a solution to the problem. There was a button in this window entitled Close Program. While I was taking this in and wondering what was happening, FFMpeg carried on and started the 2nd pass. I dismissed the pop-up window but it showed up again after FFMpeg had finished it's work at the end of the 2nd pass.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it just because FFMpeg is an old Dos application and is there a way to prevent Win 10 from thinking there is a problem?

JDobbs . . . I know you replied to my question because I read the reply in the email notification I received. The reply isn't here in the forum though. Perhaps you deleted it afterwards?

In any case, it was the version of FFMpeg that came with and was installed by DVD-RB. It looks like it might be 4.0.3 . . .

libavutil version: 49.0.0
libavcodec version: 51.9.0
libavformat version: 50.4.0
built on Jun 20 2006 02:00:39, gcc: 4.0.3

This is what I get under Display Versions (Is this what you mean by Inspect?)

- Versions :
-- Rebuilder: v1.28.2
-- CCE SP Version: 2.67.0.27
-- ReJig Version: 0.5.0.5
-- QuEnc Version: 0.7.2.0
-- HC Version: 0.23.0.0
-- DGDECODE Version: 1.4.5
-- AVISYNTH: 2.5.8.0

As far as using LAV filters . . . I haven't got a clue. I have them installed (ver 0.65) but don't see anything in DVD-RB pointing to them or mentioning them. I don't know how to get DVD-RB to use them.

There might be some miscommunication here

You are referring to DVD_RB but Inspect and LAVF are used by BD_RB

Agreed about the confusion but here's the message I first received . . .

It's working for thousands of others.

1. Are you using the version linked in the instructions?
2. Why not just use LAV Filters -- it's newer, better, and includes H.265 decoding?

Post the results of INSPECT (see the help menu).

I misread your post and thought you were referring to FFDSHOW and BD-RB. That's why I deleted it.

No problem, I think I began to realize that.

Any ideas on the original question though?

In DVD_RB the Mobile Output was experimental ( if I am not mistaken) especially since we are now dealing with win10
If I read your intent correctly ( DVD > mobile) you can do this with BD_RB

I don't think BD-RB can output to an MP4.

I don't think BD-RB can output to an MP4.Sure it can... in fact some of it's default presets output to MP4. If I have a DVD I want to output to an MP4 or MKV, I just import it into BD-RB and output to ALTERNATE using a preset that matches my needs. If none of the presets are exactly what you want -- just create a new one. It can also (importantly) output using HEVC -- so you can get better size/quality ratios.

One of my regrets about DVD-RB is that, in an attempt to satisfy everyone, I added too way many options -- making it difficult to understand. In BD-RB I decided that anything that wasn't "for the masses" would be handled through hidden options (for experts) so that main functions wouldn't get unmanageable to the average user.

Both of your programs are amazing. I have just imported my DVD into BD-RB and am creating a test MP4. Since BD-RB is made for Blu-ray's I never dreamed of using it for DVD's before, and had never paid any attention to the alternate output. Thanks for the info.

I guess I won't be needing FFMpeg anymore but I'm still curious about the error that really wasn't an error in the end.
