SpruceUp question....16:9

this is my process:

smartripper file mode rip
rempeg2 creates new vob's
ifoedit to remux with original vob's. (i'm trying the spruceup method b/c final remux with ifoedit causes freezing. figured spruceup would take care of that)
dvd2avi creates .d2v file and .wav file.

import .d2v file into spruceup, create menu, etc.
author disc.

problems:

i have no sound in PowerDVD, WinDVD or on standalone.

original movie perspective was 16:9, seems spruceup imports 16:9, but outputs at 4:3. distorting the video.

You can open the ifo for your title set up in ifoedit and adjust the aspect ratio to 16:9 letterbox. As for your sound issue, are you using a demuxed ac3?

i was trusting that DVD2AVI would spit out a .d2v and a .ac3 file.
when i bring in the .d2v file into spruceup, shouldn't it be linked to the vob files and the .ac3....and bring them in also? so, when i open the d2v, it know's to bring in the video from the vob's and the audio from the ac3 that DVD2AVI created.

or should i bring in the .d2v AND the .ac3 file and lay them ontop of each other?

Spruce isnt going to notice a .d2v file. You need the .m2v video file from the vobs which you can obtain through stream processing with SmartRipper.

in smartripper...movie mode, strip streams, demux audio and video to separate files. sr will create an m2v. load this m2v in spruceup?

Yes, make sure its named the same as your ac3 or SpruceUp won't pick it up. You should be fine as long as the two files combined don't exceed 4.3GB

I'm having that same exact problem with SpruceUp distorting the video. I rip it with DVD Decrypter 3, IFO Edit it down to size, ReMPEG it into a .m2v, and DVD2AVI the audio into an .ac3 and everything looks fine until SpruceUp gets ahold of it. Once I imported the .m2v and .ac3 into SpruceUp, I let it make the vob's and .lay files, then used InstantCD to burn it.

I still haven't figured out how to get SpruceUp to not alter the 16:9 perspective.

From the SpruceUp manual:

"SpruceUp supports 4:3 only, but will import 16:9 video and process it as if it was 4:3 (playback will be as 4:3, not 16:9)."

SpruceUp doesn't alter the 16:9 perspective of the video and accepts it as-is. But it always assumes anything it creates is 4:3 and authors its IFOs accordingly. So if you just change the IFO to reflect the true aspect ratio of the video, as the link shows, it will work fine.

Some folks have reported that it still didn't play correctly on certain players. But following the way a player is supposed to determine aspect ratio, I honestly can't imagine why. I've tested the method above on six different brands/models and it has worked perfectly on all..
