Hi all,

The size of an 6ch audio stream on a DVD i'm quessing is a huge amount of data, hence my query. DVD players display a 5ch signal while playing SVCD's and sound good. What is changed, compressed or even lost in the conversion? Is it just 6ch stereo?

My system

Yamaha DSP A1000
Polk audio
Pioneer dv-444
Mitsubishi 46" HDTV
100 watt polk sub

2.0A northwood
Asus P4T-E
500meg rambus
80gig IBM 120gxp
Enermax EG365P-VE
Plextor 24/10/40A
Panasonic DVD ram

Kudos to this site and DVD2SVCD

SVCD's are Dolby Stereo, not Dolby Digital.
For the discussions in greater detail try a search of the forums.
You might want to try the audio forum. The people there are far more technical than most of us. We tend to look at the big picture and touch on the pieces occasionally. The audio forum is dedicated to audio.

So basically the Dolby Digital 5.1 stream is converted to Dolby Stereo. Depending on what decoding your stereo equipement is able to do depends on how many channels you get.
