Hi

Last week I restored my win xp backup image and something is out off date or i don't have something because i get 5s playback lags in VLC log all the time and the CPU phenom 2 x945 all 4 cores 75/25/100 % usage jumping up and down with video in grey blocks or just infinite lag.

Does anyone, may have some idea as to what is outdated or not installed?
VLC was the same version before restoring os.

1. Do other files (e.g. from x264) play fine in VLC?
2. Did you try other x265 samples or always the same one?
3. Do you have VLC hardware decoding enabled?
4. How does MPC-HC/LAV software decoding play the problematic files?
5. How does ffplay play the problematic files?

Gonna do the tests on the weekend

I encoded with the same settings to x265 2 files
for one MeGUI used FFMS to index it
and for second one for source, it used ffdshow

and the result is that first one works and the second not.

Windows Update is probably going crazy right now.
Manually scan for & install all available updates.
If updates are NOT available any more, disable Windows Update.

Same goes for any other programs you allow to auto-update.

Install Windows 7 x64 and use a 64-bit player. H.265 decoding performance will almost twice as good in that case!

Search FitusMaximus's WinxPup 4.0, it's package for a complete updating XP offline.

If you do search for above mentioned WinxPup, be prepared to be screwed around redirected to advertising pages and other unpleasantness.
Perhaps GMJCZP, could just provide a working link.

Sorry, I don't have such link, but the file name is wnp_4.0_esn.exe (spanish). Of course, Google is your best friend.
