No matter what I do I keep getting this when trying to use the one-click method to recode an MP4 file.
[Error] [11/20/2016 10:28:26 AM] LoadPlugin: unable to load "C:\Program Files\MeGUI_2418_x86\tools\lsmash\LSMASHSource.dll"

Windows XP? MeGUI version? L-Smash version?

It's Windows XP, latest MEGUI version 2624 , L-smash -Say's L-Smash works r804 (20151030) in Update window.
Everything was working last time (a few months ago or so) - no changes that I know of since. No updates. Just isn't working now. But something may have changed or become corrupted without me knowing? I did have some malware and other things that I fixed, and maybe something got messed up in the process...

My guess would be that you're missing one of the MS runtimes. r804 is an old(ish) version, not sure which runtimes it requires.

Not sure if I've made a boo-boo (wrongly classified), but I have file "lsmash-r804-20151030.7z" in my (non-XP compatible) Vista+ LSmash folder,
so maybe that is the problem. Contains dll in .7z file "msvcr120.dll" from VS 2013.
EDIT: I think that a number of MeGUI LSmash updates for some time have been non-XP nice, I dont bother updating them anymore,
but as I dont use it in MeGUI (and rarely in Avisynth), does not matter to me.
Most recent one that I have verified as working has filename "lsmash-r784-1.7z", perhaps there are later ones.
(I have a number of versions that have yet to be classified working or not).
EDIT: Using AvsInfoTool (seems to have a bit more info than AvsMeter), shows this
Error loading plugin "LSMASHSource.dll":
LoadPlugin: unable to load "C:\ProgramFiles\...\LSMASHSource.dll", Proc not found. Update Library version?
OS Version required for this plugin (6.0) is greater than the host OS version (5.1).
On XP32 (OS v5.1).

OS Version required for this plugin (6.0) is greater than the host OS version (5.1).
That's not a reliable indicator that the plugin is not compatible with XP. One if the reasons I retired the tool.

Maybe so, but it still dont work on XP32. (EDIT: with all current runtimes till vs2015 installed).
EDIT: NOTE, "lsmash-r804-20151030.7z" is latest update to MeGUI Stable, unfortunately not stable nor even working on XP.
Latest in MeGUI stable for XP prior to that update was the one that I mentioned earlier, ie "lsmash-r784-1.7z".

The version of LSmash that comes with MeGUI (development server) is not compatible with XP. The last XP compatible version I know of can be found via the MediaFire link at the bottom of this page. I'm pretty sure it's the same version StainlessS has mentioned. http://avisynth.nl/index.php/LSMASHSource
MeGUI adds msvcr120.dll to the same folder as LSmash so it shouldn't be an issue with missing runtimes.
You'll need to manually download it and use it to replace the current version of LSmash. It'd probably pay to open MeGUI's Updater via the Options menu and right click on LSmash in the list and set it to "Ignore Updates".
All the other MeGUI tools are currently XP compatible.... aside from ffmpeg. If you happen to use it (I think MeGUI only does for Xvid muxing and converting audio to AC3) there's an XP compatible version of the latest stable release here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/ffmpegwindowsbi/?source=navbar
I haven't tested it myself yet but someone posted a link in the MeGUI thread very recently and said it's working on XP for them. Failing that, there's a slightly older ffmpeg version here that runs fine on XP for me. I think all the versions of ffmpeg on this page are XP friendly.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/mplayer-win32/files/FFmpeg/
Same deal. Replace ffmpeg with the downloaded version and tell MeGUI not to update it any more.

Since previous post have done a little updating, for L-Smash using this one fine on XP (at least as an avisynth plugin, I dont use it in MeGUI),
the one for XP linked by hello_hello above, which is r784, works ok.
r783, also works OK (good to have an alternative):- L-SMASH-Works-r783-20150223-32bit-XP.7z, linked here:- https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1713280#post1713280

For ffms2 use in Avisynth, I have selected two versions, (I'm using the CPP one by default), and actually load it via an avsi file in plugins
(so can mod the avsi and swap to the C version if problems).
CPP, ffms2 2-2-.23-clang CPP v2.6 plug, ffms2-2.23-clang.7z
C, ffms2_r1140+101-avs+vsp - Static Linked + VapourSynth, ffms2_r1140+101-avs+vsp.7z

This didn't seem to post - if it's a replicate - I apologize -
The files I replaced to be compatible with XP seemed to work. I used 'Hello Hello's' suggested files. LSMASH-Works-r784XPcompatible.7z *(I added the XPcompatible part) as well as the ffmpeg files.
Everything went fine - and further than it did before - made it past the Lsmash part (or the same part of this anyway)
--[Information] [11/22/2016 9:54:23 AM] Standard output stream
---[Information] [11/22/2016 9:54:23 AM] Creating LSMASH index...

----[NoImage] LWLibavVideoSource("E:\ar4c312e.d5r\BODmp4.mkv")
Then this error comes up right after -

In my experience, neither L-Smash nor FFMpegSource are reliable (why I rarely use them).
You need to establish whether the problem is in the MeGUI setup, or whether problem opening that file in L-Smash.
Try with some AVI file (without any exotic encoder involved), and see if MeGUI L-Smash can open that.
Can you try same in Avisnyth ?
That particular dll requires MSVCR100.DLL (from VS 2010)
Here the runtimes for vs 2010 if you dont have them installed.

I really have no idea what Lsmash it, or FFMpegSource. I downloaded MeGUI and it worked so that I could make videos that an old machine connected to my TV could run and that's all I know. All this came with the download as far as I know - and I don't use any of it on it's own.
So I don't know how to 'open the file in L-smash' and see if MeGUI can open it. What would I do?
Not sure how to use Avisynth except as part of MeGUI - how?

I mean just try open any avi instead of mkv.
If it works then lsmash OK for megui, problem with that mkv only.

If I choose an AVI file - other errors happen - but it goes further... But L-smash never starts with an AVI. I won't bother posting the log as this is not what I'm trying to do.
The original file is MP4, not mkv - MeGUI is making the mkv's.

I was able to re-code the video in VLC - so am not really that desperate anymore. But it would be nice to figure out what is wrong with MeGUI or my setup anyway. Like I said, I really have not changed it (well the updates part was turned on), so I never fooled with the other programs and dll's that it uses to function - just downloaded it and it worked pretty much. Once I had to erase the scratchpad script - but that's all. Strange.

Well after a long hiatus... Worked on several video files recently and things went smoothly. I think the problem was with this particular file. Followed the recommendations for keeping updates compatible with XP above.
