i encoded a movie with 192kbps on the main track, and 32kbps for the commentary track, when i watched it in winDVD, the secondary track was completely fucked up and gave me this garbled noise, so i'm expecting the same in a console DVD player. My question is:

Can i encode two tracks, the first having 192kbps, and the secondary commentary track having 96 or 128kbps?

Does the total bitrate for both tracks have to be limited to 224kbps total? or is that limit per channel only?

I'm asking becuase, Pioneer, the DVD player i have, wont play any video bitrate over 2500kbps or something, so i set my maximum for 2499, does the audio bitrates have similiar limits for Pioneer?

basically, what i'm asking is, can i have 1st audio track as 192kbps, and the second as 92kbps (reducing the video max bitrate of course to make sure total bitrate is not over 2723kbps), and have it play back fine on a Pioneer DVD player? or will this violate some rule that i dont know about?

thanks for the help.

I think rmatei has already answered your question.
Once again - try looking at the vcdhelp.com for list of compatible players, look at the svcd specifications and you're all set-up.
