I have just started to use Adobe Premiere and am having issues with audio sync when trying to edit .mp4 files formats. I have search on google and this seems to be a well know issue, but the most popular suggestions for a fix, which involves renaming the file from a .mp4 format to .mov doesn't appear to work for me and actually makes the sync worse.

The issue i have is the video will start of in sync but then at some point will go out of sync, so its not as easy as just manually altering the audio sync. Does anyone have any insight on how on earth to fix this issue, it seem pretty poor that a program like Adobe Premiere cant manage .mp4 files correctly!

Does it play in sync in a media player (e.g. mpchc, vlc, potplayer, smplayer) ?

Is it VFR (variable frame rate) ? You can check with mediainfo (view=>text) . If it is , then one approach is to convert to CFR first (e.g. with avisynth)

Try extract the RAW audio to aac (with YAMB, for example) and then rebuild to m4a format, next put both in two different tracks mp4 video and m4a audio.
