First off I read the FAQ and didn't find what i was looking for.

I just used DVD2SVCD to create a SVCD. The image quality is Excellent, but when I play it on my APEX AD800 it hangs up for a few seconds and then continues to play. I used all the default settings in the DVD2SVCD guide and multipassed it @4.

Is there a setting that can be changed to fix this problem?
I am guessing if I lower the bitrate it would solve my problem?
Or how about the setting the multipass lower?
Also it took about 15 hours to complete the process. Can I shorten this time without degrading the quality too much?
My machine specs are AMD 800mhz Duron, 128mb ram, 2 20gig 7200 deskstars.

Thanks for any help.

Nice first post!

With the bitrate you are using a one pass CBR would do ok for you if you really need to save the time. Certainly you could cut the pass to 3. No brainer there. Also, tune off downsampling in the audio tab. That saves some time for the future.

Btw, if you still have all the files, change the encoder settings to 3 pass or cbr and use Crash recovery to start from the video encoding phase to do another run.

I can't speak to your player problem. You might want to do an encode without chapters just to see if that is the area causing it. Also, make sure you burn it slow until you know for sure your burner is doing a clean job.

also increasing the amount of ram you have will speed you up quite a bit,cce is very memory intensive and ram is quite cheap at the momement.

I set up another machine for my DVD processing, so saving alot of time isn't that important. I just want to be able to do more than 1 dvd a day if possible without sacrificing quality.

Is there somewhere that explains bitrate and downsampling in more detail?

By turning off downsampling, what does this do to the audio quality?

Will lowering the multipass to 3 or 2 make a huge difference from 4?

The SVCD I just made is excellent to me, and if I can make them looking the same but in a faster, more time effiecent manner, that would be great.

So by looking at my logfile, the only things you would recommend is lowering the multipass and turn off downsampling?

Thanks

I can up the ram, that is no problem. How much do you recommend? Right now I have 128mb DDR. I could go to 512DDR if that helps.

Thanks.

turning of downsampling will make no difference in audio quality, i have never heard of any dvd player that cannot handle 48k sound,
as for the number of passes try using 3 you probably wont be able to see any difference in video quality, CCE is supposed to peak in video between 3 and 4 passes.i personally cannot usually see the difference between 3 & 4 passes unless the source material is dodgy.
i really would get some more ram as well as CCE hardly runs on 128 meg.

WhOOpS & DDogg,
Thanks for the advice. I will add some ram and turn off downsampling and lower my multipass to 3 and see what happens.

Also, do you think changing from Nero to CDRWin would make a difference? I used Nero and burn @4x.

Thanks for the help.

yes ,i would say that CDRWIN is the preferred choice around here, although nero can burn bin & cue files it wasn't really deseigned for it.

Well I just tried CDRwin and my player wouldn't even play the disc! It just makes a high-pitched squeal and stops. I'll see if changing those settings do anything for me.

Thanks.

Why not try vcdeasy with cdrdao. Free and excellent.

Hello No Rice,

this is mainly caused by "bad serial numbers" when using CDRWIN. ;) It is the funny way of the CDRWIN programmers to take revenge if you have not registered correctly - so CDRWIN will not say: "This is a wrong serial number" or something like this - it just fills your CD with digital garbage. ;) - Funny, isn't it.

I recently tried the "Daemon Tools" (http://www.daemon-tools.com) and i must say it is a dream to work with. They install a virtual CD(DVD) drive you can mount your CUE files to and use any burning software to do a disc-to-disc copy with. Also you can use any software DVD player to watch your CUE/BIN files as a (virtual) SVCD when mounted to the "Daemon Tools". So you can have a look if something went wrong with the conversion just before burning a real SVCD. :)

Greetings,
Gerti

Well, I tried CDRwin, Dameon, VCDEasy, Fireburner, Nero 5.5.7.2. The only one I could get to work was Nero. I still get the hesitation, but it is only in the title scene. I am running Rush Hour 2 right now, with the multipass set @3 and downsampling turned off and also added another 256mb to bring it up to 384mb DDR. Hopefully these changes will solve my problems.
