magicyuv takes more space

now that Lagarith isnt compatible with Windows 10, switched to MagicYUV. something that was 96gb with Lag is 226gb with magic. is that expected?

Have a look at what color space you're using.

Maybe Lagarith was using YV12 (4:2:0) or YUY2 (4:2:2) , while MagicYUV accepts more color spaces and can convert to other color space if you choose, so maybe by default it receives RGB from the application which takes more space when compressed.
If you can't configure the application to send YV12 or YUY2 to the codec, go in its configuration and select convert to color space, and choose the proper matrix.

If your video ends up compressed with h264 or hevc, it will use YV12, so it makes no sense to compress RGB. If you're compressing HD content, use Rec.709 HD standard for color matrix, for anything below or equal to 1024x576 use Rec.601
