help. I was happily using ver 50.17 and downloaded 50.18.
I opened the zip file like I normally do and extracted everything as usual.
slipped a bd disc in the computer and clicked bdrb.exe (as usual) and , after a bit, got the error msg 'mscomctl.ocx is missing or invalid'.
I deleted, re-booted, now all older versions I have (50.16 and 50.17) give me the same error msg.
how do I fix this?

Looking up "bdrb.exe" in Google shows that you may be taking about 'BD Rebuilder', but would be a good idea say what it is that
you are having problems with, should not be up to people to guess what the problem software is.

EDIT: I've probably done more daft things myself.

I deleted, re-booted...Did you re-install BD Rebuilder per the instructions?

README.txt

If you are running Windows 8 or Windows 10 you may need to run REG_MSCOMCTL.BAT.

http://www.videohelp.com/software/BD-Rebuilder

Be sure to install the required tools, ffdshow, Haali Media Splitter and avisynth...

Download BDRebuilder Inspect here, it inspects BDRebuilder required tools and codec configuration...

Note, I know nothing about this program other than what I have just read in the README and on Videohelp.
(Shame it doesn't have a proper setup program)

guys,

I was using v50.17 which means that all other plug-ins were installed properly.
I deleted v50.18, re-booted, re-downloaded v50.18, same error msg: 'mscomctl.ocx missing or invalid'.
deleted v50.18 again, re-booted. tried v50.17, same error msg. tried v50.16, same error msg.
what do I have to do get fix this so I can run v50.17 again?

what do I have to do get fix this so I can run v50.17 again? You have to fix your subject line (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1778527#post1778527) so that BDRebuilder experts can find your question. Posting it in the proper forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?f=75) would have helped, but what's done is done. Do not make another post, that is cross posting and against the rules. Good luck.

We have moderators here who should be able to move this thread to the proper location...

For the missing "mscomctl.ocx" the Visual Basic Runtime must be installed.
And this is from the first post of the BDRB thread:
3.1 If you are running Windows 8 or Windows 10 you may need to run REG_MSCOMCTL.BAT. In the installation folder (you selected in step 3), right-click on the file "REG_MSCOMCTL.BAT" and select "Run as Administrator". You should only have to do this once.

How about answering raffriff's simple question:
Did you re-install BD Rebuilder per the instructions?
I also don't know BDRB but looking at the instructions in the first post in the BDRB thread, this caught my eye:
3.1 If you are running Windows 8 or Windows 10 you may need to run REG_MSCOMCTL.BAT. In the installation folder (you selected in step 3), right-click on the file "REG_MSCOMCTL.BAT" and select "Run as Administrator". You should only have to do this once.

Yeah, mscomctl.ocx is included in the ZIP, but you need to run the BAT file to let Windows know about it.

Going off some hazy memory here, I believe that if a previous version of mscomctl.ocx was installed and is now deleted, Windows will continue to look for the missing file until the new one is registered (IIRC, Windows works from the GUID, not the file name)
