DVR with no IEEE

I have Charter cable and I have two DVR one with the IEEE connection (DCX3500M)and the other with connections HDMI RCA Ethernet USB where all of them except the HDMI and RCA are blocked. http://imageshack.com/a/img921/5807/jGELFH.jpg

I was using the IEEE on the 3500M to output to my computer for me to record the movies. But now I don't know what to do with the 3520e-m.
Can I use a capture card with and HDMI input output interface and the right software to rec. the movies off the 3520 (and are they encrypted if so what do I need to decrypt them).

Can I just get a HDMI converter card and a video capture software and rec. like that. Or can I simply browse for .TS files on both of the ARRIS devices to simplify the video transfer. How do I do any that ?

Does Hauppauge have an all in one package I can get. I've look at there site and is says nothing on DVR recording only about video game capturing which I think is the same a DVR video capturing. Also tryed Youtube and found very little on DVR recording, unless the device has an IEEE withe CAP-DVHS software (which I have and used it with the 3501)

There is no way to retrieve the actual streams from this device. HDMI capture is possible (with some Chinese cards or specific splitters to get around HDCP) but HDMI does not transmit the streams. HDMI only carries uncompressed video, so instead of a pre-compressed 4:2:0 file you get a decompressed video upsampled to 4:2:2 or above that then needs to be downsampled and compressed by the capture device or software (digital generation loss).

So can I just get the Colossus 2 for it to work or will I need a HDCP splitter with for it to work.

You need to strip the HDCP to be able to use any Hauppauge HDMI device.

So With the HDMI interface I need a HDCP splitter but if I RCA Comp. to HDMI The HDCP splitter is not needed?

Using composite would result in a greatly reduced picture quality.

Well, revert to the older DVR.

The general trend is to get rid of any digital output (even if CP), as well as the analogue ones.

The technological world will be very similar to the pre-1923 world.
