View Full Version : recommendations for available DTS/TrueHD/Dolby Atmos Encoder for eac3to

Hi,

I read several threads to use certain additional software to encode DTS with eac3to:

Nero 7 with blu-ray plugin
ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 6
surcode
possibly ffmpeg?

The first 2 are no longer available
surcode costs $249, which is out of reach to my budget
ffmpeg? I don't know if it can encode DTS, I checked their codecs (https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-codecs.html) documentation, chapter 8. I see lots of audio encoders listed but none explicitly mentions DTS

I also wished for a encoder that can encode TrueHD/dolby Atmos as I see more and more of them lately in my blurays.

The computer I use for all my video work is under windows 2012 R2 (64 bits) which has no sound card (if that matters), but I do have an old vmware virtual machine of windows 7 64bits.

Are there other options available?

thanks,

Largo

Nero 7 with blu-ray plugin

That's for AAC decoding.

ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 6

That's for DTS decoding.

surcode

Outputs only DVD-Video compliant streams + DTS Audio CD.

possibly ffmpeg?

Yes, ffmpeg is an option, but I've never used for DTS encoding...
I prefer ffdcaenc instead.

Dolby's TrueHD Encoder is for Macs only, and it's not freeware.

Hi filler56789,

Thx for the feedback.
I will try to find and use ffdcaenc.

on a side note, I read that surcode (at least as a plugin to compressor 3) can be used for blu-ray.

EDIT: I found this page (https://github.com/filler56789/ffdcaenc-2/releases/tag/build-2.1.3)to download ffdcaend exe for windows, looks like it's from you as it has the same user id as here.

Yes, that's me myself ^_~

Regarding the "released" binary at GitHub... probably it's a 64-bit build  — so if you need a 32-bit build, then please check the following post @ Videohelp:

http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/348702-ffdcaenc-%28an-upgrade-to-dcaenc%29?p=2337613&viewfull=1#post2337613

The better binary is the second one, because it supports stdin input.

Hi,

thank you, I needed 64bits so that's fine.

I did a test:
DTS to wav
then
wav to DTS
everything worked.
I have a few other questions but I'll raise another post with a new and proper title and some more testing.

thanks again for shedding light on this topic.
