So I recently purchased an old animated series on DVD and decided to get around to converting it to files on my computer. (In case anyone might have similar issues, or own the DVDs and can confirm it's not just an issue with myself, it's the box set for The Slayers.)

Now I've managed to make working copies of all the episodes from the DVDs, so far, but I was wondering what was going on with them.

I couldn't use VidCoder right on the DVD. Anything I create was a blocky mess. So I tried using MakeMKV first and it showed that the DVD has 4 titles. What I've managed to ascertain is that Titles 01 and 03 are for English credits (during the intro and outro to an episode) and Titles 00 and 04 are for Japanese credits. The blocky mess I would encode using VidCoder, which also happens if I just try to watch and of the .vob's on the DVD, appears to be the English and Japanese titles playing at the same time.

The big problem I have is I can't tell the difference between the two similar titles, aside from one being lighter than the other I don't see any difference, but there's also a time difference. I've tried watching the two side-by-side, but maybe it's just a defect of me as a person but I couldn't spot where the missing time is.

So I guess I want to know is, is it normal to have multiple similar titles? Could there be some sort of interlacing going on between the two similar titles that I'm missing/losing when I split them?

Here's some info I had from the MakeMKV screen I had open:
It took about 2 minutes just to open the titles.

I'll gladly supply sample files if this isn't just a common occurrence so that someone who's much more savvy than I can figure it out.

You may want to use PGCEdit and/or PGCDemux to find out more about the structure of your DVD
before you decide what to keep. 2 angles are not that common.

It might be helpful if we knew more about exactly what you were doing... like what ripping software you were trying to use. Smartripper? DVD Decrypter? DVDFab?

@Emulgator: I'm not the most well versed in DVD structure, and maybe I'm just dumb, but I don't understand what's going on in here. So if you know anything about it I've taken screenshots of every bit of PgcEdit and also the folder structure of the DVD: http://imgur.com/a/AkFns
What I can tell is there are only 2 Titles in listed in PgcEdit, which I assume are the Japanese and English credits, but I can't figure out what would cause it to change angles as I don't understand what the gprm variable is.

I'm currently running PgcDemuxer right now, so I'll either edit this post or add a new one once that finishes and I get a chance to go over it.

@Katie Boundary: I've not tried to rip the DVD, all I've tried to do is convert it so far and I've listed all the programs I've used up to this point.

If is broken any protection I suggest use DVDShrink, in this way you could be previsualize each title.

Not sure, think when I've come across multi-angle, I've ended up setting DVD Decryptor settings/File Mode/Multi Angle Processing/
to un-ticked (1st angle only).
Think that without that, DVDShrink caused playing of both angles in turn(which is a little disconcerting).

EDIT: On second thoughts it could be that you Tick multi-angle processing and choose angle, guess your gonna have to
read the DVDDecryptor docs to find out which.

EDIT: Yeh you tick Multi-Angle Processing and select angle to RETAIN
(search angle) http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/dvddec-options.htm

In PGCEDit: Doubleclick on VTST 1,2.
A separate title properties window will pop up. You will be able to preview the cells, titles, what you prefer.
The uppermost play button will play that title completely, the column of play buttons in cell rows will play the associated cell only.
In case of multiangle you will be asked which angle to preview: 1 or 2 (or more) or all interleaved.
Decide what to keep for ripping. DelAngles Button is next etc. Then the same with VTST 1,3.

You may want to rip out a certain angle only. I can not tell what the multi-angle is for in your DVD, can not see it.
You may do as StainlessS suggested (DVDDecrypter), or rip both angles separately using SmartRipper, or PGCEdit, or PGCDemux.

LogicDeLuxe has a nice multiangle example mux .iso on his website:
http://www.abmischung.de/video_examples_en.html
You may download this .iso, mount it using Pismo File Mount Audit Package (now in Version 182), and preview in PGCEdit to get an impression of the structure.
