View Full Version : "VirtualDub" compatibility with Windows-10?

Hi,

I operated until recently under Windows-7 ultimate 64bit.

I de-interlace my videos with Avisynth and QTGMC script, through VirtualDub.

All this worked very well, after many adjustments... in multi-threaded, with 32bit software on my 64bit system.

In VirtualDub, I finished with "Fast recompress" either Huffyuv or Lagarith with the "Compression" menu or in ProRes with the "Export" menu.

I wanted to try the update to Windows-10 Pro 64bit while it is still free...

Do not panic... I started by making a Clonezilla image of my system disk, in order to return to my old installation of Windows-7, if I get tired of this Windows-10...

Well, I did the update and all my installation is now under "Windows-10 Pro 64bit."

I tested a deinterlacing with Avisynth (QTGMC script) through VirtualDub and with export in ProRes, and... everything went well. Surprisingly, the process ran slightly faster than Windows-7. Interesting…

But... if I want to instead use a different compression, when I try to open the "compression" menu under "Video" in VirtualDub (with or without an already loaded video) VirtualDub stops responding, it is stuck there, nothing to do...

I tried installing a fresh version of "VirtualDub 1.10.4"; no difference, can not open his "Compression" menu under the Windows-10 Pro 64bit...

Does anyone has a solution or a different experience of "VirtualDub" with Windows-10 ?

Sounds like the problem may be with specific codec.
Try to enable them one by one. This tool is handy http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/installed_codec.html

@shekh
Thank you for your solution and sorry for not being able to respond earlier.

I installed and used "InstalledCodec" as you suggested.

I was able to identify that it was the codecs "vidc.dvh1" (Matrox VFW DV100 Driver) and "vidc.MJPG" (Matrox VFW Mjpeg Driver) that caused the blocking of "Compression" menu of VirtualDub.

Once disabled in InstallCodec de-interlacing a video by QTGMC through VirtualDub now performed normally.

Should I completely remove these codecs in the system? Will they miss for other procedures?

I saw that you had created "VirtualDub FilterMod" and it includes a modified version of VirtualDub, would it be more current and more compatible for Windows-10?

IMO unless you specifically know why you need mentioned codecs you are safe to remove them (or just keep them disabled).

I am not aware of any compatibility problems. But there are other nice fixes, let me know if it works for you :)
