My PC can't detect any CD or DVD

I'm using Windows 7. I have tried to insert any type of disk, such as games, programs, movies, and blank CD, but none of them work. Have you checked that both plugs (IDE/Sata - and power) are seated properly,
is there any indication that something is happening, ie and led's light up ?
Have you tried the DVD player in another computer ?

Apparently the so-called "optical unit" of the device is dying (or it's dead already).

Before dying, a unit gets a disease first - the dust and/or smoke.

Try cleaning it first.
