x264 licensing and premium options

Hi,
Does anyone know x264 licensing and premium options ?

To the best of my knowledge, there are no "secret" x264 features that only commercial licensees can get access to.

Instead, that paragraph just means that if you buy a commercial x264 license, because you want to use it in a way the GPL doesn't allow, then certain "premium" features will cost extra money. But the GPL version has all of them anyway.

I think there is a patch for "MVC 3D" available somewhere. And the other so-called "premium" features (Profile 4:2:2, Profile 4:4:4 and 10-bit Encoding) are available in standard x264 builds for a long time now ;)

I think like you but I've not found any version or patch for MVC 3D so perhaps this feature is not avalaible...

It seems like the 3D wave has become smooth (again) as many new TV don't even support 3D any more .....

DVDFab uses a x264 build with patched MVC support, but they don't allow for 2-pass so the quality is not as good as it should.

Yes I don't like DVDFab quality, I don't like Intel MVC encoder too for the same reason...

The poor quality of DVDFab is probably not because of the missing 2 passes. 1-pass CRF would produce same quality as 2-pass. I guess that DVDFab are using 1-pass ABR in order to end up with a desired target file size. (I have not tried DVDFab though).

Yes, DVDFab uses 1-pass ABR, with some insane settings like M.E. Range 64 on "High Quality Mode", I'm pretty sure that 2-pass mode with "Fast Mode" settings would produce a more competent output. You can actually change some of the settings via "x264_dp_Standalone-Blu-ray.xml" file in order to get a better result, but there is no way to force 2 pass mode, and no MVC settings.

Still is way better than Intel QS "I use the same bitrate for both eyes, derp :stupid:", the quality of Movie Only BD-25 of 2.35 films is great, 1.78 films are more problematic for example Hugo and Life of Pi have very complex scenes that end looking awful because ABR encoding does not provides enough bits for them.

A x264 build with MVC support will be great for BD-Rebuilder. It is sad that such a thing does not seems to exist :(.

A x264 version with CRF/MVC support would be a very good thing but I haven't found. And if it doesn't exist, I think it will never exist... :(
