Current situation of HDR playback

As an HTPC (Kodi) user I'd like to understand whether software is already capable of playing back and GPU of outputting HDR material to a compatible display. I've tried searching but info is confused and conflicting.

there is not software that can output HDR as HDR.

your GPU can't even do that.

but you can already map HDR material to "gamma and display that.

so you can now calibrated your screen to a very high brightness and get the about the same HDR image as sending HDR.

the software you need for this is madVR and lavfilter and it should work with kodi DSplayer.

Ok, so basically no. I've already calibrated with sensor and CalMAN my display (a plasma) and I don't think there's any point in doing it for now. I was just interested as a curiosity, because I saw the discussions but I wasn't able to understand the full situation. Thanks for your answer huhn. :)
