Shimmering lines after field matching and AA

I am trying to process some episodes, but the result always has some strong or miner shimmering on lines during panning or zooming.

I tried enabling the 'stabilize' parameter of SharpAAMCmod and also tested other anti aliasing plugins with no improvement.

Haven't taken a look at the clip but from the top of my head try standalone qtgmc (with high tr2) instead of tfm with clip2.

The minor shimmering is defenetly better with that, but the bad parts remain almost unchanged.

The image in post #1 labeled "especially bad" is far far far far far better than other parts of the sample. At least, IMO.

I gave up investing big chunks of valuable life in fixing videos that others have f'd up because they're too smartass to follow established DVD standards. Previous processing wasn't your fault, but the script in post #1 does a lot of work and I can't figure out what it's doing or why. It seems apparent that temporal elements were already discarded when the DVD was made. I think we're looking at ~25fps pulldown video speeded up to 29.97, You can start with the idea below, which removes duplicate frames to get 23.976 fps, and smooths motion somewhat. But you can't replace previous data that has been destroyed.

QTGMC(InputType=1) The are plenty of QTGMC options you can tweak for different results.

Avatar Season 1 is one of my torture test clips. And it's not just the DVD. I had the official 15 Mbps MPEG-2 studio mezzanine file for this, and had similar problems getting it to a solid 24p without interlacing artifacts.
