Hello pcman,
from my expierence this has nothing to do with the bitrate used for the encoding process. This can be caused by a couple of things (sometimes in combination).
1. You burned to fast (read official Q&A about that issue).
2. Your burner's writing quality is not the best at higher speeds on the outer edge of the CD-R media (try to burn at slower speeds)
3. cheap media (try another quality brand - depends on your burner)
A friend used to burn his first "Conversions" at 24x speed with his Ricoh burner and as you might assume right - they all have errors on the outer edge (always in that zone where his burner jumped from 16x speed to 24x speed) and he is not able to copy them without errors anymore. When he realized that he decided to burn at max 8x speed now with his burner and the errors have gone.
So i recommend to start at 4x speed and see if there are errors if not then stay with it or try the next step. With your already done CD-Rs - try to copy them with CloneCD and ignore the errors (SVCDs are very fault tolerant and sometimes play well in standalones with those errors).
Greetings,
Gerti

If you already have a SVCD and you just want to make a copy of it use Clone CD (http://home.t-online.de/home/CloneCD/download/SetupCloneCD.exe)

personally for me clone tends to introduce errors where there were none (dont ask me why,i dont know)
I use padus diskjuggler which is very good, i have never had a bad burn with this software.

I use Blindwrite Suite to rip the image off the CD and then I burn with Nero.

I can copy SVCD's quite happily with Nero.
If you are getting read errors trying to copy then one often needs to set the READ speed to not take the default value of "Maximum". In fact I have had a couple of SVCD's that got so many errors playing on my stand-alone DVD player they were unwatchable. This turned out to be due to the brand of CDR I was using which has proved to be unreliable for Video CD's. I switched to another brand and then I used the Clone CD option in Nero and set the read speed to "1". This stopped me getting read errors during the copy. The resulting new SVCD played back without errors on my stand-alond DVD player.

thx for the advice i did actually try clonecd and i agree it is a bit error prone but tried the excellent blindwrite which extracted perfectly but i have not re-burned it yet so cant comment on quality also after it extracts the image it defaults to blind write for burning image is nero better and does it give original chapters, subs ect..

Last time I check diskjuggler was not recommended for burning svcd's so if you use diskjuggler use at your own risk.
Now as what getri67 said makes sense some writers have trouble writing to the edge of media ect, Either try a 2x or make the image files a bit smaller. I myself would get ahold of a cdrw disk and do some tests.
1.Limit image size
2.SLow down speed from 4x to 2x
3.Try all known software that will burn svcd's
4.Try different media
I'm sure with that type of testing you could come up with a solution.
to your second question: about keeping chapters and such
All you need to do is find the software listed in this forum that is supported for svcd burning, and then burn the cue/bin files. ALL chapters if they were select in dvd2svcd will get burned with supported software. Now if your dvd standalone will use the chapters properly is a different story.

how do i copy svcd's
what question is being asked here? I'm not sure myself.
Usually you say how do I burn an SVCD which is found in the newbie faq. How to make a 1:1 copy of an existing SVCD (copy svcd) then I use Discjuggler works great. I'm sure Nero or Clonecd would work great too.

Pcman, you don't have to use Nero but I do recommend it. For me, it has always been the most reliable package. Regarding chapters etc, the new CD should be identical to the original because you're burning an image of it.
