Your homeburned SVCDs use PBC, LOTR SVCDs don't. If you want to burn SVCDs and be able to see the time, use VCDEasy for authoring and de-select use PBC (or if you're using DVD2SVCD, there's a option not using PBC in the newest version (1.0.6.b4)

Which is the difference between using the pbc mode and not using the pbc mode?
Can that make a difference on the level of compatibility?

PlayBack Control is about how the player handles menus and chapters. I never use PBC with my Philips 622 DVD, as when PBC is selected this player doesn't allow you to choose subs / audio tracks etc. Chapters work Ok with my player even without PBC, but I have seen reports that on some players chapters don't work if not using PBC.
If a disc plays OK with PBC, it will also play Ok without it.

Under CD Image choose VCD Imager and your bin/cue will be put together without PBC...you will also loose the ability to put a "change cd" pic at the end of your movie.

If you use VCDImager, you cant have chapters. For me this is crucial, as my players doesn't REW/FF SVCDs over 40 minutes. You can have chapters without PBC using vcdxbuild DVD chapters (no PBC).
