Hi,
I need to play 1080p 10bit HEVC files, but VLC is slightly too slow. Are there faster alternatives? I have 2 GHz core 2 with sse3, ssse3.
I also tried Lentoid, but it failed to register with error code 0x80070005.
Thanks.

Right-click on "reg.bat"/"reg64.bat" and click "run as administrator".
Aside from Lentoid you may also try MPC-HC/LAV x64. (the 32 bit version is much slower, though still faster than VLC IIRC)

Try https://mpv.io/ or http://bomi-player.github.io/ <-- mpv with qml gui

Results:
VLC 2.21: sound stops playing, corrupted decoding
bomi: fails, needs opengl 2.1
mpv: decodes without corruption, but choppy. not significantly faster than vlc
mpc 1.7.10/lav .66: at least 15% faster, no corruption, slightly choppy
mpc/Lentoid: first, right click reg64.bat in Lentoid folder, run as administrator, start MPC, go to view->Options, external filters, Add filter, find Lentoid, hit ok, select preferred. Restart MPC
slower than lav, has moment of short pauses
So, Lentoid is not the best. yay for opensource :)

Try pure ffplay (from http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/ x64 static build), though I highly doubt it'll make a difference.

Yes, well, I was unpleasantly surprised that VLC is significantly more demanding than the MPC-HC.:scared:

MPC or LAV Video should be faster, it is using extra intrinsics optimizations patched in from OpenHEVC that FFmpeg itself lacks in its decoder.
VLC probably also doesn't ship their FFmpeg with these, hence it's slower. FFmpeg on its¨own still doesn't have full assembly optimizations.

If you're in windows, you can try today mpv's build: http://ow.ly/WlIyX
The ffmpeg is latest git + using ported openhevc intrinsic :)
