i've had an older version of avisynth on a spare xp box and would like to update it. haven't seen anywhere whether current avisynth will work on xp, though. can i upgrade it or do i need to stay with the old version? what is the last version that works on xp?
thanks,
BabaG

As qyot27 said,
the last version to work on XP is the most recent ie v2.6, see links in 1st post here:- http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=172213

I have a dual boot computer with XP & Win7. I use XP 98% of the time. Win7 is great, but everything on the XP drive works so well, I just have never felt the need to set some things up under Win7.

I'd uninstall, clean up the old install folders, and reinstall. Make sure to back up any plugins first.
The quasi-technical explanation: the compiler versions used to build classic AviSynth compile binaries with XP compatibility by default, and in order to stay compatible with the oldest compilers it supports, there are no Vista+ API options used.
Even AviSynth+, despite having been updated for newer compilers and using VS2013 by default now, still uses the v120_xp toolset to keep build compatibility with XP, and doesn't use API functions that were introduced later.

Make sure to delete "Avisynth 2.5" directory before install, it will then create "Avisynth" directory, otherwise may install in Avisynth 2.5
(you may not notice it prompting for install directory and accidentally install in old dir, not a big deal either way).
