View Full Version : Tool to convert TrueHD to DTS-MA?

I've been looking on the web for a tool to convert TrueHD to DTS-MA. I've seen some payware sites say they can do it. However, no info on its process.
Is there a GUI for Eac3to or a SW that will allow me to convert?
Thanks

There exists only one software for that task, and it is the Master Audio Suite Encoder. And it accepts only mono and stereo WAV files, so you would have to manually decompress the TrueHD source(s) before re-encoding...

Why would you do this? You'd expect a lower space? better compatibility?
YOu only waste time, and there is a problem with DTS (including HD, including MA) with certain chipsets.
Stay with TrueHD.

Stay with TrueHD.
Only because some receivers, Western Digital (even VLC) have issues with TrueHD.

What 'receiver' from WD? The WDTV media player has no issues with TrueHD.

Probably any player that has no issues with TrueHD (that means ALL OF THEM :) ) would be cheaper than a licence for a TrueHD encoder.

Why does VLC have issues?

I found a workaround. I use Clown3D with the latest eac3to to pull the core Dolby out of the trueHD. Then remux with mkvtoolkit

Why does VLC have issues? Why are you using VLC?
If you require help, how about providing us with more detail about your software and hardware playback devices?

Rather than pulling out the AC3 track, just encode the TrueHD with QAAC or Opus. Either are going to be better than AC3 at comparable bitrates.

Either are going to be better than AC3 at comparable bitrates. If you want to listen to multi-channel audio using a surround sound amplifier, encoding to multi-channel AAC or Opus is not advisable. As no surround sound amplifier offers on-board AAC or Opus bit-stream decoder chip-sets!
Consequently, every surround sound amplifier offers DolbyDigital (AC3) bit-stream decoder chip-sets ;)

Ever heard of HDMI and PCM?

Ever heard of HDMI and PCM?Obviously... But we don't know yet what gear Mr. Monte has.
Hardware playback devices that are able to decode multi-channel AAC-LC to PCM reliably are still not as common as you'd think. And multi-channel HE-AAC to PCM even less so. Indeed, even my Oppo has it's moments playing multi-channel AAC.
As for hardware playback devices that are able to play multi-channel Opus. Are there any yet?
