Just wondering if there was any major problem preventing the comeback of a constant quantizer setting for the credits, in addition to the new % scale? I kind of liked the quant settings :D .

cheers,

[edit...thought of a few more things to bug everyone about]

@ Koepi or -h or anyone who knows

If we aren't restricting I-frame quants is there any benefit in using the "smooth quantizer fluctuation" function? Or should we really be restricting them to some reasonable value (like 6 or 8 or...)? I've been holding off on updating from the 2-11-02 build until the quant modulation was complete, and now I'm behind in the feature set :p . I also imagine we need to use the Xvid FourCC for the quant modulation to avoid the DivX4 playback filter problems correct?

cheers,

Mostly me being lazy :)

The rate system is "better" technically, though I guess I could put the quantizer system back in this afternoon. It speeds up the 1st pass, for one thing..

Edit: If you're not changing the I-frame settings, enabling the quantization smoothing won't really do anything, since the quantizers are rarely jumping around by more than +- 2 per frame. But you can set it anyway, just in case, since it doesn't do any harm.

You should use the XVID FourCC whenever MPEG quantization will be used by the codec - unless you value post-processing over the weird colour blocks.
