In fact, there are two, but "Zopfli (https://github.com/google/zopfli)" (swiss for: yeast dough braid) as optimization of already known LZSS methods (Deflate compatible) was already mentioned in PNG encoders (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1666068).
The new algorithm called "Brotli (http://google-opensource.blogspot.de/2015/09/introducing-brotli-new-compression.html?m=0)" (more exact: "Brötli"*; swiss for: bread roll / bap / bun) is reported to be as fast as zlib and even more efficient than bzip2 and LZMA (as used in e.g. 7-zip around v9.20). Decompression is even faster than zlib if the amount of data exceeds 64 KB, which may be quite usual for video material of a satisfying resolution. It is already used in WOFF2 and may be available for HTTPS streams.
There is already a Windows binary available at text/plain (http://textslashplain.com/2015/09/10/brotli/).
