I am having a problem with changing subtitle style for the built-in/internal subs. Not really sure about the source of this problem, I tried potplayer and mpc-hc, both with lav filters and madvr and evrcp and xysubfilter; external subs style change works as far as I tried. What's the problem here?
Thanks in advance.

What format are the subtitles?

How can I check that? Extract them from .mkv?

MediaInfo (https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo) is useful too. Make sure to do a custom install and un-check all the bundled crap. It is benign if you do that, nothing extra gets installed.

MediaInfo doesn't show subtitle info in every case?
First example:
Text
ID : 3
Format : UTF-8
Codec ID : S_TEXT/UTF8
Codec ID/Info : UTF-8 Plain Text
Default : Yes
Forced : No
Second:
Text #1
ID : 2
Format : PGS
Muxing mode : zlib
Codec ID : S_HDMV/PGS
Codec ID/Info : Picture based subtitle format used on BDs/HD-DVDs
Language : English
Default : Yes
Forced : No

So which subtle is not respecting styles?
Example 2 is using the bluray picture subtle format, not text, so you can not change the subtitles at all.

Both actually.
