Hi Admins,

Thanks for this great forum. A small favour: is it possible to revert the handling of PNG (and perhaps other image) attachments to how it was done until recently, i.e. they were uploaded unconverted and were immediately visible and usable?

The last time I attached PNG images, however, they were auto-converted to JPG and required approval. This approach means even image attachments need moderator approval before becoming usable by other forum members. Also, images are mostly uploaded for quality analysis and/or comparison purposes, and the JPG conversion might interfere with that. Or do you have specific reasons for taking this approach?

Thanks,
François

Attachments have required approval as long as I've been a mod (2006?). The conversion of png to jpeg isn't cool, but I can't replicate it; everything I upload in png stays png. Are you absolutely certain the original files were png, and not jpg with a png file extension? (Look for "JFIF" or ".PNG" at the beginning of the file.)

Yes, the files (Video.Save image as from AvsPmod) were saved as .PNG and start with those letters.

I just tried with a new .PNG file and it also got converted to JPG. That was with the Advanced editor, Manage Attachments button and "Upload File from your Computer". Already in the Manage Attachments window the file type seems to get changed from .PNG to .JPG, see attached hehe.

And the original PNG was certainly below the 200.0 KB limit?

At the time I didn't check that, but here's a similar picture, similarly created, with original .PNG file size 42.9KB. No conversion this time:confused:.

Oh well:).

Yup, that will do it. Looks like the board automatically converts anything over 200k (presumably including oversized jpegs). Something to keep in mind when uploading. This was a 1mb png.
