View Full Version : Can Intel iGPU HD4600 graphic play this HEVC/h.265 clip?

I have been trying to play this HEVC/h.265 clip (se download link) but it does not play smoothly with my Intel Core i7-4790K iGPU HD4600 graphic on Dell 4k UP3214Q monitor, I get the best result with the MPC-HC player, but it stutters and CPU load is 80-90% can anyone download this clip and try it out?

I have tried both 32bit and 64bit MPC-HC player, is my PC not powerful enough to play all HEVC 4k clips?

On my 4670k@4.0Ghz it plays almost fine, extra 20-30% should be just enough to make it perfect.
1) Use 64-bit MPC-HC, currently 32-bit decoder is twice slower.
2) Make sure that h/w decoding is disabled (Internal Filters -> Video Decoder, Hardware Decoder -> None), it's too slow.
3) Try playing with number of threads there (with higher number of threads it may become a little bit faster)

Hmm......try using Enhanced Video Renderer Custom Presenter with h/w decoding first. (Remember to make sure the HEVC box is checked and hardware decoder set to DXVA Native)
Select Bicubic -1.00 as resizer.
Dont forget to install latest driver for your IGPU, apparently, older driver has issue with hybrid hevc dxva decoding.

nothing works, the only way to get it 100% stutter free is to lower the resolution on the monitor, why is this clip so difficult to play when most other 4k clips play just fine at 3840x2160p ???

Because it has twice the fps (50) than "normal" videos.
If lowering display resolution helps then the problem is not in the decoding but in rendering. Rendering such amount of pixels very fast is not an easy task - especially for integrated graphics.
Are you playing it with EVR custom (playback -> output, EVR = Enhanced Video Renderer)? In fullscreen?
You could try just plain EVR, it should be a bit faster.
Or, even better - with madVR with chroma upscaling set to bilinear. It has nice OSD (Ctrl+J) that could tell you what part of the whole process is too slow.

Did you install madVR properly?
Anyway madvR eats more CPU compared to EVR.

Well I am not sure, installed latest madVR as external filter, thats it, but got only maybe 5fps

That's not the way to install. Unzip madVR and double click the install.bat file. After that you must see madVR available in MPC-HC renderers list( options/playback/output/Direct show Video)

35 - 40 eh?
Just a suggestion, why dont you overclock the igpu slightly to 1350Mhz? (Apparently, Intel itself said the safe stable OC for Haswell HD 4200 - 4600 is 1350Mhz on GPU turbo)
Since core i7-4790k igpu is clocked at 1250 Mhz turbo......might as well as raise +100Mhz and check if you can get into 50fps decoding speed....
*Note, I got my i3-4330 HD4600 stable turbo at 1425Mhz*
Oh, since it is an integrated igpu, your RAM frequency/speed is important too (dual channel preferred). What is your ram frequency?
EDIT: DXVA2 (Native) with EVR CP.

Thats exactly what I did, but got very low fps, I also tried overclocking igpu to the max some time ago but that didn't help much either.
Can anyone of you play that clip with full 50fps with no stutter???

Using LAV Video x64 in SW mode and EVR renderer (not the default EVR-CP), I can play that file "easily", meaning with a steady 50fps in a scaled window (I don't have a 4K monitor)
If I use hybrid HW HEVC acceleration of LAV x86/x64 it drops ~32fps using my iGPU@1.5GHz
With Cyberlink's PowerDVD 15 hybrid HW HEVC decoder I get ~42fps using my iGPU@1.5GHz

Yes it plays perfect at 1080p but stutters at 2160p, so what dows this all mean? the intel graphics 4600 is just not powerful to play hevc 4k 50fps and there is nothing to do about it???
