full screen AVI 1:1 output playback

The question is:

I want to playback a full pal AVI at full screen on a 800x600 resolution WITH NO VIDEO REESCALING I don't mind to have a little black border surrounding the image as long as it is not jagged!!!

Same goes for DVD playback, I am not a real novice to digital video but I just can't figure out how to force the f"#$%& windows to playback video streams at 1:1

Could somebody help me?

If You play the clip back in standard mode in whichever player, it mostly covers the screen (720x576 of it) and it is 1 to 1.

well, first of all thank you for the suggestion prr, but although it is correct, I would like to see the video in full screen mode so that I don't see the window's borders, desktop, icons and everything around the video; for wathching a movie is more confortable to have a video over a black backround rather than in a window.

Does somebody have an idea about how to do it? maybe manipulating some directshow filter so that mediaplayer is unable to scale the video ???

Try Zoom Player. Start your movie, switch to full-screen (Alt-Enter) and then press the "`" key. This will set your video at 1:1. Maybe you'll also need to set aspect ratio to "source aspect ratio" (press the "r" key multiple times).

Watching 720x576 correctly without rescaling in 800x600 mode is quite impossible, because the image is vertically stretched (to get 1:1 pixels, the res should be 720x540). The best solution would be to create/have a 720x576 res for Your gfx card and watch clip at that res.

Why? All you have to do is tell the player to use the source aspect ratio. At least Zoom Player can do this, I'm not sure about the others.

Then it _scales_ the image, but hex wants not to scale the image in any way.

This zoom player is really good!!!
Now I can watch movies without the scaling artifacts :-D

anyway, the idea of creating a custom resolution sounds interesting as then, you'll have video with no artifacts and no black borders around to, also creating a profile in the monitor presets scaling the image so that it fits (at least in one axe) the screen is worth trying!!!

It totally depends on Your GFX card and monitor. For example my Matrox G400DH has nice option to use almost whatever resolution that may come into Your mind, including 720x576 for PAL and 720x480 for NTSC clips.
But I personally prefer to watch clips on TV :)

De nada! Zoom Player is the best :-)

About that special resolution, I know that at least with nVidia cards it's possible to select a resolution of 768x576 pixels. You'll get some horizontal scaling but vertical resolution will be perfect. And for NTSC, the exact 720x480 res. can be set. These modes have to be 'initialized', meaning that they need to be included in the driver's .INF before installing it.

you can try powerstrip to enable your custom resolution but that will not work with all gfx cards.

not sure if I understand correct, but if you are looking to watch etc. cartoons or music videos that are usually PAL resolution 352x240 and you want to wath those against black backround? Then I use movieplayer: Cinematograph. It shows every video against black backround and then you can resize it if you want.

You should be able to create an html page that goes full screen with a black bg, and embed the windows media player...

hey, all solutions worked but the powerstrip one! good job guys
and powerstrip probably crashed because of my graphics card GVX1 ( a 3D thing, not the best for video stuff :-P )

but the best solution still is Zoomplayer, that is even freeware!
