Color conversion during encode

Hi! I encoded a video and the encoded video is more vibrant than the source video.

And not just the screenshot from FFmpeg but even when playing the videos. What should I do to prevent color conversion? Or the encode's color is the better?

It's probably a playback problem. What's the process you're using for re-encoding? Which media player are you using?

To save a lot of typing, could you have a look through this thread (http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/372035-MPC-HC-Very-Dark?)? Or this one (http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/369167-Color-loss-after-video-conversion?). I suspect it's a similar problem. Well, I'm pretty sure it's a luminance levels issue (not a colour conversion), but I'm not sure whether it's a result of the re-encoding or your playback settings. If you're re-encoding standard YV12 video, and it's just being re-encoded without any conversions in between (ie converted to RGB and back) then the levels shouldn't change and it's a playback problem. Unless you're using software that does weird things to the luminance levels, although even if they're able to, most encoder GUIs won't mess with the levels unless you specifically tell them to.
