what does this option do in media player classic ( or k-lite) ?
"options > subtitles > apply aspect ratio compensation for anamorphic videos "

can anybody explain it?

That changes the way subtitles are rendered to match anamorphic videos so they do not look stretched or squished after scaling to the display resolution.

Anamorphic video needs to be scaled more in one dimension (usually horizontally) so if you render the text normally it will look too wide or stretched after being scaled with the video.
