I have a Sound Blaster Player 1024. It supports 4 speakers but does not do Dolby 5.1.
What the best way for me to encode the soundtrack from movies to make full use of my speakers?
Can I get better quality than with just stereo mp3 which is what I currently use.
I've had this card for a while but only just got the extra speakers.
Would apprediate any advice
Thanks

use the 5.1 channel ac3.. then set the ac3 direct show filter (you have to install either windvd or powerdvd, multichannel edition) to 4.0 speaker output. In the future 4.0ch vorbis would also be an option

Thanks very much
Do you know if the demo versions will be ok or will the filters stop working after the trial period finishes? (assuming I can get a trial vesion!)
I have power DVD but it looks like it doesnt have 4 speaker output as its not in the audio options. (where the help says it should be!)
Thanks again

Right Click the PowerDVD window, hit configuration, goto the audio tab, then select the 4 speaker list item from the Audio options combo box. Note: these instructions are for PowerDVD XP.

Tried that, I only have Direct sound wave out and spdif :( I have Power DVD 3, not 4. Don't really want to have to buy another version of power dvd...

Regarding the demo filters: you will have no luck with these as they only will output sound for 5-6 minutes for every time you press play and then turn all audio off.
