View Full Version : Forum feedback: can the inactivity period be increased?

I can't tell you how many times I've been composing a reply here, I hit Submit, and instead of seeing my post appear I'm greeted by a page telling me I'm not logged in now.
I have no idea how this works on the back-end, but this seems to happen much faster than on other forums I use. So I assume it's a vBulletin setting and not something my browser can decide.

Yes, it has happened to me too. Just don't make the mistake to use "back" button of your browser, because it will take you back, but your text will be gone for good
Instead, just re-login and your text will usually be posted properly. Anyway, please make sure "Remember me?" is enabled when you log in. This should prevent the issue altogether...

Is that the trick? Up to now, I've left "Remember me?" unchecked because I'm assuming that will keep me logged in if I visit the site, say, tomorrow.
I'm not sure if this will make sense, or if there's a better way, but I want to avoid missing new posts. Typically I log in every few days, check "New Posts", open up whatever interests me, read/reply, leave and let it time-out my login. Then if I find a random Doom9 thread on Google the next day, I can read it without being logged in and the "New Posts" aren't cleared.

If loosing the post is a issue then a browser plugin can help, Firefox has Lazarus.
Never lose anything you type into a web form again! Lazarus securely auto-saves all forms as you type, so after a crash, server timeout, or whatever, you can go back to the form, right click, "recover form", and breathe a sigh of relief.

That is the main concern, yes. Thanks. Now I'm just wondering what security settings would be best for me. I don't think I can be bothered to enter another password every time I restart the browser (I already log into LastPass every time).
