Tutorial HTPC on Linux ! MPV & VapourSynth

Hello,

Linux is underestimated when it comes to multimedia. So I decided to make a HTPC tutorial on Linux to obtain a very good video quality. I use MPV and VapourSynth for the most advanced users.

It's a command line software but this is absolutely not a problem for our use.

It's really not a problem, when you want to watch a movie you simply double click on it, like on Windows ;)

Thanks for latest PPA for MPV. I recently installed Linux Mint as dual-boot along with Windows 8.1 and I can not find good replacement for MPC-BE + madVR. But, SMPlayer and MPV as backend work just fine. MPV can be used from Terminal or drag-and-drop or right-click/Open with or with a script but I preffer GUI and SMPlayer as GUI works just fine.

I red your tutorial and it helped me to choose render and configure subtitle positon as I wanted. Thanks for that, too. BTW, very detailed tutorial.

Good stuff. You might mention that MPV has "smoothmotion", which is now called "interpolation",

for example: vo=opengl-hq:scale=ewa_lanczossharp:scale-antiring=1.0:interpolation

Now there is no need for Windows anymore for a good HTPC :

MPV : can replace MPC-HC, Lav filters, ffdshow and Reclock with his built-in filters
Vdpau or Opengl : are good renderers and can replace madVR
VapourSynth : can replace Avisynth
Kodi : it's cross plateform
