I have a problem ripping Bridget Jones (zone 1), I tried smart ripper, claddvd, and dvd decrypter ans I always get the same problem: in some scenes (always the same) the image is distorted and the sound is bad and there are some repetitions (stuttering??). Since this is my first try at ripping I don't know if I am doing something wrong.

The only good rip I get is when I use the default option with claddvd... but that's not what I want since I want to burn it back to DVD-R.

I hope you guys can help me.

Thanks,
Kamin

you need to be more specific

I ripped Bridget Jones' Diary R1 a while back with no problems (used SmartRipper 2.26, I'm sure).

Sounds like you had read errors during ripping. This is either caused by a flawed disc or a DVD drive that doesn't rip well.

I have two DVD drives; my older drive rips pretty much flawlessly, but the new one (the few times I've used it for ripping) invariably introduces corruption. I think the new one tries to read too fast.

If the disc is flawed, you often won't see any problems on a stand-alone. I believe stand-alone players are more resistant to disc that are on the verge of being bad (both because the read slower and because their firmware doesn't really care if there are a few errors). I think one good way to check for a flawed disc is to try playing the DVD on your PC (from your DVD drive) using a software player. If you don't see any problems, then the disc is probably okay.

You said you get a good rip with Clad. You may be able to work around your problem by ripping the vobs with Clad, then using any tool you want (maybe even clad again) to rip the other files. You might even just be able to use Explorer to copy the other files (once the DVD is authenticated) because typically only the vobs are encrypted.

The problem doesn't seem to be DVD sinc it plays well with winDVD and PowerDVD.

The problem with clad is when I rip with the PGC option (ifo parsing) it renames the vob's and doesn't extract the ifo's. I tried renaming the files to thier original names and copying the ifo's the the directory then run ifoedit, but it didn't work. I got error messages from ifoedit!?

Is this specific enough? What other information would would you need in order to help me?

Thx,
Kamin
